Specialty classes
The East Alton Skating Academy will be offering specialty classes this session.
These specialty classes are designed to enhance a skater’s skills in a particular area. There also give skaters a taste of the other skating disciplines. The
classes are most helpful when taken in addition to a learn-to-skate class or private lesson. While most of our classes are for figure skaters, the power skating class is also open to hockey players looking to work on their basic skating skills and endurance.
The following classes will be offered:
Snowflake Twirl Class: This class is for the younger skaters (3-5 years old) who wish to learn basic jumps and spins. This is a fun way for the little ones to enjoy more advanced skating. This class will be taught by Kathryn McKeon and will be offered on Saturdays During LTS (11:15-11:45am)
Into to Synchro: Ever thought that you might want to be on a synchronized skating team? Then this is the class for you. Skaters will learn basic moves that apply to synchronized skating. This class will be taught by Tammy Wilke and offered on Saturdays during LTS (11:45-12:15pm).
Intro to Speed Skating: Don't think figure skating or hockey are for you? Why not try speed skating? This class will teach skaters the basics of speed skating. It will be taught by Kim Werths and offered on Saturdays During LTS (11:45-12:15pm)
Power Stroking Class: This class is for those skaters looking to increase their speed and endurance. It focuses on stroking and crossover drills, as well as jump and program drills. This class is open to any figure skater or hockey player. It will be taught by Kathryn McKeon and offered on Saturdays during the LTS (12:15-12:45pm).
MIF Turn Class: The moves-in-the-field class is for those USFSA skaters who wish to learn the patterns for their particular level. Due to limited ice time we will be focusing more on the different turns involved in MIF This class is offered for any level of moves-in the-field. This class will be taught by Kathryn McKeon and offered on Saturdays during LTS (11:45-12:15).
Please note that in the event that a class only has 1 or 2 skaters enrolled, the class may be cancelled. Please sign-up early as classes will fill up quickly! Please try and register by October 1st, if possible!
